Get ready for the first edition of the Fairtrade Global Awards!

Business shaping a fair future

The Fairtrade Business Summit three-day program is envisioned to showcase the impact that can be created when farmers and workers collaborate with businesses around the world. The Fairtrade Summit will bring together Fairtrade farmers and workers, like-minded businesses focused on having a positive impact on their supply chains, and policymakers, including government and civil societies.

Together, there will be opportunities to discuss the challenges and design solutions that are common to all stakeholders, look into the future, and collaboratively build fairer and sustainable global trade.

  • A field immersion day to directly interact with farmers and workers to appreciate firsthand the impact of Fairtrade commitments at the producer level. The target value chains are coffee, tea, flowers, fruits and vegetables.
  • A day and a half of thought leadership global trade discussions, business networking opportunities and exhibitions that showcase some of the most innovative and impactful business models.
  • The Fairtrade Global Awards Ceremony 2023.

Find inspiration in the city by visiting the only Game Park in the capital city (Kenya Wildlife Service) or networking in the world-famous Karura Forest which was made famous by the efforts of conservatists led by the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Prof. Wangari Mathai (Friends of Karura)

Why are we creating the first Fairtrade Global Awards?

The Fairtrade Global Awards aims to bring Fairtrade farmers and workers closer to the businesses that source from them – and celebrate where these relationships are creating impact. Every category will be producer-awarded, giving farmers and workers the opportunity to recognize their commitments to Fairtrade.

Award Categories

Fairtrade Living Incomes Leader Award

Are you committed to a world where smallholder farmers can earn a living income? Are you investing in tangible progress to this end? This award is designed to recognise those who have set up, funded, or been involved in living income projects or initiatives. This could include income diversification, paying a Living Income Reference Price, or a holistic package of interventions for farmers.

Fairtrade Living Wages Leader Award

This category seeks to acknowledge businesses driving forward meaningful change on wages, and those working towards closing the living wage gap. The category focuses on partners who are building partnerships with farms to support wage structures and may include those paying a wage differential amongst other interventions.

Fairtrade Climate Leader Award

Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges for producers today. If your business is committed to innovating and generating impact in tackling the climate crisis, this may be the category for you. This category will explore business actions relating to raising awareness, biodiversity, taking a community-centred approach to environmental management, and/or taking a holistic approach to climate mitigation and adaptation while recognising the link between incomes and sustainable livelihoods.

Fairtrade Innovation Award

Are you leading new types of products, entering new demographics, or raising awareness of consuming and trading fairly so it is more accessible? Then you could be a good fit for the innovation category!

Fairtrade Caribbean and Latin America Award

Are you committed to source from the Caribbean and Latin America, while actively supporting the Fairtrade agenda? Then this might be for you!

Fairtrade Africa Award

Are you committed to source from Africa, while actively supporting the Fairtrade agenda? Then this might be for you!

Fairtrade Asia and the Pacific Award

Are you committed to source from Asia and the Pacific, while actively supporting the Fairtrade agenda? Then this might be for you!

Fairtrade Partner of the Year Award

It all boils down to collaboration. This award recognises existing commitments, strong two-way relationships with producer groups and willingness to innovate and test new approaches in collaboration with Fairtrade.

Fairtrade Global Awards & Business Summit
